Adrian Hood
Senior Engineer

After leaving high school, Adrian worked and trained as a chef, achieving top-level qualifications in New Zealand and the UK. He was involved in the catering industry for about 14 years, then shifted occupations to work in civil construction for about a year before taking up a role with small local engineering firm as a draughtsman and site observer. Whilst working for this company, Adrian conducted and completed his studies for his BE and since graduating he has worked as a Structural Engineer.
Adrian chose to work for Markplan due to their commitment to quality engineering and a strong focus on team. Adrian’s engineering philosophy is to enjoy the challenge of solving problems and providing engineering solutions that are beneficial to both the Client and the Company. He believes that every engineering job has its own unique set of problems to solve, so each job presents a new challenge no matter how big or small.
In addition to standard structural engineering, Adrian has experience in forensic engineering and the investigation of damaged structures. With his backgrounds in both construction and engineering, Adrian aims for practical solutions and remedial options for these cases.
Adrian was born in Auckland, and after growing up in a few locations around New Zealand he put down roots in Auckland where he remained for over 25 years with his wife and two children. A big change came in 2023 when Adrian and family became mainlanders, making the big move to Wanaka in August where Adrian now fronts Markplan’s very first branch office.
When Adrian is not at work he can be found doing DIY around his home, spending time with his family, walking his two dogs, and of course hitting the slopes, trails and lakes as often as possible now that the Southern Alps are on his doorstep. Adrian has also developed a passion for low and slow Texas- style BBQ, and with several smokers at home he can often be found preparing beautiful cuts of meat for friends and family - ask him for a bottle of his home-made barbecue sauce!
