James graduated from Unitec with his Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) in 2006 and has been part of the Markplan team since doing an internship with the company as a student back in 2002. He enjoys his role within Markplan as a Structural and Civil Engineer as well as a Civil 3D Draughtsman.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, James’ family spent 6 years living in the United States prior to immigrating to New Zealand in 2000. He has been involved with engineering, draughting and construction of all kinds for most of his life, following in his father’s footsteps, as his Dad John also works at Markplan and has been James’ mentor in the early stages of his career. James enjoys being involved in both design and build projects, as he also enjoys wielding a hammer.
James finds Markplan a great environment to learn and grow professionally, and taking on the responsibility of a project from start to finish as well as liaising with the client during the course of the project is a great way to become proficient in every aspect of the role.
James lives in Orewa on a beautiful lifestyle block with his young family. His two boys, Ezra and Jachey, and his wife Liz are his great joy and enrich his life every day.
He has recently completed his own house build, undertaking the roles of architect, draughtsman, planner, engineer, quantity surveyor, project manager and builder! James is very proud of this achievement.
