ME (Hons), BSc, MEngNZ
Leo joined the Markplan team in June 2026, bringing more than 10 years of experience across civil and water engineering. His qualifications include a Master of Engineering with Honours, a Bachelor of Science, Postgraduate Certificates in Engineering specialising in Renewable Engineering and in Environmental Engineering, and a New Zealand Diploma in Public Sector Procurement. Born in Japan, he spent his early years in China, Canada and Australia before settling in New Zealand at the age of 13.
Before becoming an engineer, Leo was an aspiring professional tennis player, and that early discipline and determination still shapes the way he approaches his work. He enjoys projects that call for careful thinking, practical problem-solving and a clear understanding of what clients are trying to achieve.
Leo was drawn to Markplan by the variety and quality of work across New Zealand and the wider region. He enjoys being part of a team that delivers thoughtful engineering solutions and contributes to projects with real purpose.
He has a particular interest in sustainable civil infrastructure and design that responds well to both the built and natural environment.
Outside of work, Leo enjoys spending time outdoors with his partner and their two dogs, Aivie and Chica. His free time often includes trips to the beach or bush, gardening, camping, mountain biking, surfing, fishing and boating. He enjoys the North Shore lifestyle and the easy access it offers to the coast and outdoors.
