We believe thoughtful engineering should create lasting value while reducing environmental impact. As a practical first step, our focus is on understanding and reducing the embodied carbon associated with the materials we specify.
Our approach is grounded in awareness, informed decision-making, transparency, and practical action. We are at the beginning of this journey, and we will continue to learn and improve as better information, tools, and practices become available.
Markplan's sustainability pathway is founded on four key goals:
As designers and specifiers, we can influence environmental outcomes before construction begins. Material selection affects embodied carbon which is the greenhouse gas emissions associated with producing, transporting, installing, maintaining, and ultimately disposing of building materials.
By making these impacts more visible early, we can help clients and project teams compare options, understand trade-offs, reduce risk, and make better-informed material choices before key decisions are locked in.
For every Revit model at LOD 300 and above, we are working toward including a material production carbon assessment table. Material quantities will be linked with available Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) data to show the estimated production-stage carbon impact of specified materials.
This will provide clearer, more consistent information to support conversations between clients, designers, consultants, and suppliers.
Our commitment is to keep learning, improving our processes, and collaborating with clients and suppliers to achieve better project outcomes
Better information supports better decisions and better decisions support more sustainable projects.
